For many years both local and regional jockeys have competed here, including some top international jockeys and trainers, with thoroughbred horses from the UK and North America featured - some owned by the world’s leading investors in thoroughbred racing.
Barbados' climate is ideal in March, with temperatures hovering in the mid-twenties and very little rain so it's ideal for a horse racing holiday.
The big race is run over a turf course at a distance of 1,800 metres (8.95 furlongs) and is open to horses aged three and over. The Historic Garrison Savannah is a fitting setting for such as event, having been the home of horse racing in Barbados since 1845, and is conveniently located close to the island's capital, Bridgetown.
